Bridge Ministries Food Pantry
Bridge Ministries is located in Southside, Birmingham. The Holy Apostles coordinators are Scott Dunbar and Lisa Isay-Pigg.
Among the ways Bridge Ministries assists the most vulnerable in our community, it operates a pantry supported by donations from Holy Apostles and other faith-based organizations. Every Sunday, you walk by a large, plastic bin located near the name tags in the narthex, placed here for collection of donated food and other necessities through their pantry program. People who are struggling may come to the pantry and fill a bag with groceries for the week. The items depend on the individual situation. A homeless man might need food readily available out of a can, like tuna fish or peanut butter. A mother might need diapers or formula for her child. A family who may actually have a place to live, but had to choose between the rent or food, will receive items to make a casserole. The common theme, without question – they need help.
Please consider filling an extra bag of groceries the next time you are in the store. Bring it to church the next Sunday. Once the bin is full, someone will deliver the goods to Bridge Ministries. (We’re sorry, but Bridge Ministries does not have a use for 10 lb cans. Donate only 8 oz or 16 oz cans. Also, no perishables please.)
Did you know that your food donations are tax-deductible? We all make food gifts to help others, not for tax deductions; however, please let us know if anyone needs a record of their donation. We have very substantial food gifts coming in to the Bridge Ministries Pantry on a regular basis, and some folks make special trips to shop for our needs. Please let them know we are thrilled to provide a letter of acknowledgment and can list a monetary value if they give us the receipt with the food.
